Breaking: Alabama’s Top Running Back Gives Incredible Testimony About Nick Saban!
This offseason, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban shocked the collegiate football community by announcing his retirement. However, since then, we have learned some amazing, undiscovered tales about the legendary coach.
Damien Harris, a former standout running back for Alabama, recently shared another amusing tale. During his appearance on the Until Saturday podcast, he talked about a 2017 matchup with Vanderbilt.
Just now, Vanderbilt had defeated Kansas State 3-0 to begin the season. After the thrilling victory, defensive lineman Nifae Lealao of Vanderbilt was asked, “Alabama, you’re next.”
Harris claimed that after playing that footage during the first meeting of the week, Saban left without saying anything more.
“I kid you not, the first meeting that we had, Coach Saban just played that, and then we left,” Harris recalled. “We remained silent. We just left to rehearse outside. As if this was the one and only time Coach Saban had never spoken before a game.”

The Crimson Tide’s motivational speech—or lack thereof—was effective. Alabama put on a strong performance to defeat Vanderbilt 59-0. Against the Commodores, Harris amassed 151 running yards and three touchdowns. While limiting the Commodores to only 78 total yards, the Crimson Tide concluded the game with 677 yards of total offense.
Vanderbilt would conclude the season with a 5-7 record and lose out on a bowl game, while Alabama finished the season 13-1 and won the national championship.
