Vols Secure Talent with Addition of Ian Cruz for 2024-25 Season
Ian Cruz has officially signed with the Tennessee men’s tennis team and will be joining the Vols for the 2024-25 season, head coach Chris Woodruff announced on Tuesday.
Cruz becomes the third transfer to join UT for the upcoming season. He previously played for Belmont for three seasons, achieving an impressive singles record of 64-23 and a doubles record of 34-19. In 2024, Cruz excelled as a junior, posting a 16-3 dual match record at the No. 2 singles position, with a flawless 17-0 record in conference play. In doubles, he remained undefeated (8-0) alongside partner Alfred Wallin, competing in the No. 2 and 3 spots.
“Ian is an extremely competitive individual,” remarked Tennessee associate head coach James McKie. “Our great fans will love his fight and toughness on the court. He is coming to us from a really great program in Belmont, and we are looking forward to helping him reach his goals in his last year of college tennis.”
Cruz, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, holds a UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) of 12.64, indicating his high level of play and competitiveness.
