Miami Hurricanes GM Addresses Weekend Finale at Virginia Tech: Updates and Insights
Following a thrilling series at Virginia Tech, the Miami Hurricanes baseball team found themselves on the cusp of a sweep, having secured victories in the first two games. However, their quest for a triumphant finish hit a snag on Sunday.
The matchup between the Hurricanes and the Hokies kept fans on the edge of their seats, with both teams locked in a tight battle during the early innings. Yet, it was Virginia Tech that seized control in the sixth inning, ultimately clinching the finale with a commanding 13-4 lead at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
Throughout the game, the Hokies (32-17, 14-13 ACC) showcased their offensive prowess, consistently putting runs on the board in five of the first six innings, highlighted by a six-run surge.
Miami (23-27, 10-17 ACC) managed to stay in contention until the fourth inning, but Virginia Tech gradually widened the gap as the game progressed.
Notably, all nine starters for Virginia Tech reached base safely, with centerfielder Ben Watson leading the charge with a remarkable three-hit performance, accompanied by two RBIs. Adding to the offensive showcase, third baseman Carson DeMartini and designated hitter Eddie Eisert each contributed home runs to secure the victory.
On the pitching front, right-handed reliever Wyatt Parliament (4-3) played a pivotal role, delivering 2 2/3 scoreless innings and tallying five strikeouts en route to earning the win. Conversely, Miami’s starter Herick Hernandez (3-7) was saddled with the loss after pitching 4 2/3 innings.
Looking ahead, the Hurricanes are set to wrap up their road series against FIU on Tuesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
