Texas Rangers pitcher Max Scherzer recently reflected on the exhilarating journey of winning the World Series with the team last season. Speaking on Fox Sports, Scherzer emphasized that his primary motivation is not personal milestones but rather the collective pursuit of another championship ring.
“I’m not really playing for milestones. I’m just playing to win the World Series,” Scherzer stated. “We’ve got a good group here, and we have a chance to be able to do this thing again. So, that’s the only thing that motivates me. That’s the only thing I’m playing for, is to be able to go out there and win the ring.”
Despite his impressive individual achievements and assured place in baseball history, Scherzer’s focus remains resolutely on contributing to the Rangers’ success and guiding them to another shot at the World Series.
However, the Rangers are currently navigating challenges in the early stages of the season, sitting at a 14-14 record. While they started strongly at 6-2, the team has faced setbacks as they adjust and regroup.
Injuries have also hampered the pitching staff, with key players like Scherzer, Cody Bradford, Tyler Mahl, and Jacob deGrom dealing with various health issues. Bradford, in particular, was placed on the injured list due to back soreness after an impressive start to the season, showcasing a 1.40 ERA in three outings.
Despite the setbacks, there’s a glimmer of hope as Scherzer progresses in his recovery from offseason back surgery. Initially expected to return around June or July, the veteran pitcher has shown promising signs and is nearing a comeback with the Rangers.

Scheduled to make his second minor league rehab start with Double-A Frisco, Scherzer’s progress has been ahead of schedule. In his first rehab outing with Triple-A Round Rock, he demonstrated his prowess by striking out four batters over 2 and 1/3 innings, despite allowing three runs on five hits.
With a decorated career spanning multiple teams and accolades, including three Cy Young awards, Scherzer’s return adds a boost of confidence to the Rangers’ rotation. As he continues his journey back to the mound, his leadership and experience are invaluable assets to the team’s quest for success.
