Former West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has made a bold statement directed at club co-owner David Sullivan regarding David Moyes’ future.
Having worked under Sullivan’s tenure for four years at Upton Park from 2011 to 2015, Allardyce was eventually replaced by Slaven Bilic. Moyes then took the reins from Bilic in November 2017, only to depart six months later. However, the Scottish manager returned to the London Stadium in December 2019, orchestrating a notable transformation for the club.
Nevertheless, Moyes’ tactical approach has faced criticism from fans for its staleness and lack of ambition, mirroring Allardyce’s situation at West Ham nearly a decade ago. Allardyce famously clashed with supporters, labeling them ‘deluded’ upon his departure, suggesting a disconnect between his style of play and the club’s traditional ethos.
Allardyce’s recent comments have reignited discussions about Moyes’ contract situation, which remains unresolved as it approaches expiration this summer. Allardyce’s message to Sullivan is clear: secure Moyes’ future with a new deal. Drawing from his own experience, Allardyce emphasizes the importance of managerial stability and the distractions posed by contract negotiations mid-season.

However, many fans, including the author, see Allardyce’s intervention as misguided. While acknowledging Moyes’ success in certain aspects, such as leading the team to a Europa League victory, they argue that his conservative playing style does not align with the club’s aspirations. Despite the achievements under Moyes, there’s a growing sentiment among fans that a change may be necessary to advance the club’s ambitions further
