The Carolina Panthers’ veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen isn’t ready to hang up his cleats as he heads into his 34th season.
After spending a decade with his hometown team, the Minnesota Vikings, Thielen wrapped up his inaugural year with the Panthers. Despite doubts surrounding his ability to perform at a high level, especially after his release from the Vikings, Thielen showcased his prowess during the 2023 season. His impressive stats, including 103 receptions and 1,014 receiving yards, ranked him among the league’s top players, all while navigating a challenging environment with a rookie quarterback and an offense struggling to score.
Reflecting on his departure from the Vikings, Thielen described it as “disappointing” but harbors no resentment towards his former team. He understands the team’s shift towards a younger roster, acknowledging their strategic plan for the future.
Having made a name for himself in Minnesota, Thielen’s ties to the state run deep, both on and off the field. Despite the Vikings not leaving the door open for a potential return, Thielen accepts his new chapter with the Panthers, recognizing the blessings that come with it.
Transitioning to a new team and city has been a learning experience for Thielen, who values the growth it has brought him personally and as a family man. As the oldest player on offense for the Panthers in 2023, he embraced his role as a veteran leader.
Looking ahead, Thielen is eager to play under new head coach Dave Canales, praising his positive energy. In the meantime, he’s gearing up for the Invited Celebrity Classic in Dallas, Texas, where he’ll compete against PGA Tour champions and celebrities, including reigning champ Tony Romo.
Thielen sees golf not just as a recreational activity but as a mental training ground that enhances his performance on the football field. His competitive spirit drives him to excel in both sports, aiming for victory in the upcoming tournament and leveraging golf’s mental challenges to sharpen his focus and resilience as a football player.
