Minnesota Twins Secure Versatile Talent in Tony Kemp!
In a move to bolster their roster depth, the Minnesota Twins have inked a deal with seasoned infielder/outfielder Tony Kemp, according to reports from the New York Post. The agreement, which sees Kemp joining on a minor league contract, adds a versatile player to the Twins’ ranks.
Tony Kemp, 32, began the season with the Baltimore Orioles but found himself on the outs when the team opted to bring up top prospect Jackson Holliday, leading to Kemp’s designation for assignment last week. Despite his brief stint with the Orioles, Kemp went unclaimed on waivers and opted for free agency over accepting a demotion.
Details regarding the specifics of Kemp’s deal with the Twins have not been disclosed publicly. However, this signing comes at a crucial time for Minnesota, which has faced setbacks due to injuries in its infield. Notably, third baseman Royce Lewis and shortstop Carlos Correa have both been sidelined due to injuries—a quad strain for Lewis and an oblique strain for Correa.
Prior to his departure from Baltimore, Kemp logged a limited performance, going 0-for-9 with one run, one walk, and one strikeout across five games. However, his track record showcases his potential contribution, boasting a career batting average of .237 along with 35 home runs and 184 RBIs amassed over 739 games.
Kemp brings a wealth of experience, having plied his trade with several Major League Baseball teams including the Houston Astros (2016-19), Chicago Cubs (2019), Oakland A’s (2020-23), and the aforementioned Orioles. His versatility in playing both the infield and outfield positions adds depth to the Twins’ roster, providing manager options for lineup flexibility and defensive configurations.
With Kemp’s arrival, the Twins aim to fortify their squad for the challenges ahead, confident in his ability to contribute positively to their campaign.
