Titans Engage in Exhaustive Draft Preparations
In just a fortnight, the 2024 NFL Draft’s opening round will have concluded, and the Titans will have secured their highly sought-after pick, unless a trade alters their plans.
As for who that pick will be, it remains a mystery at this juncture. Positioned at No. 7, the Titans are dependent on the choices made by teams ahead of them. Within the confines of Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park, the personnel team is diligently finalizing their draft board, engaging in discussions about prospects with just 13 days remaining.
This marks Titans coach Brian Callahan’s inaugural involvement in Tennessee’s drafting process. During a recent press conference, Callahan shed light on his approach, emphasizing the collaborative nature of decision-making.
“When it comes to advocating for certain players, it’s usually based on strong convictions or notable disparities in positional needs,” Callahan explained. “However, the drafting process is more about meticulous preparation and exploring numerous scenarios. We analyze every possible outcome, considering various players and contingencies. By the time draft day arrives, we’ve already dissected all potential scenarios.”
Callahan highlighted ongoing conversations among coaches and scouts regarding player preferences. He stressed the importance of consensus-building within the team.
“At this stage, coaches and scouts express their preferences, and we address any discrepancies in player evaluations,” Callahan elaborated. “The ultimate decision is a collective one, shaped by extensive discussions and evaluations. This phase is characterized by advocacy and negotiation, as we solidify our draft strategy.”
With eight picks scheduled for the April 25-27 NFL Draft, the Titans have actively engaged with prospects through various events, including the Senior Bowl, NFL Combine, and pro days. Recent weeks have seen the team hosting college prospects for 30 visits, providing an additional opportunity to gather crucial information.
“We’ve extensively evaluated player tapes and conducted thorough background checks,” Callahan affirmed. “These visits allow us to delve deeper into the personal aspects of each prospect. Our goal is to ensure that we’re not only comfortable with a player’s on-field abilities but also with their character and values.”
As draft day approaches, the Titans remain committed to their meticulous approach, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for the perfect draft selections.
