‘Won’t influence me’ – QPR boss Marti Cifuentes issues crucial updates on ghosts of his past…

QPR’s head coach, Marti Cifuentes, is no stranger to the pressures of a relegation battle, having experienced it in his past endeavors. However, he remains resolute that his prior encounters with relegation won’t cloud his approach to the crucial remaining weeks of the season in West London.

Having joined QPR last October from Swedish side Hammarby IF, Cifuentes has swiftly garnered support from the Loftus Road faithful with his composed demeanor and notable improvements in the team’s performance. Despite earlier fears of relegation to League One, QPR now seems poised to secure Championship football for the next season, although a recent setback against Sheffield Wednesday has dampened spirits.

Following the defeat, Cifuentes was questioned about his stint at Norwegian club Sandefjord, where he endured relegation in his first season before achieving a remarkable turnaround. However, he brushed aside any parallels, emphasizing his singular focus on QPR’s upcoming challenges.

“I’m not dwelling on the past,” asserted Cifuentes. “While it’s true we faced relegation with Sandefjord, I’ve been in coaching for over two decades. Our current priority is the remaining five games, and my aim is to win them all.”

The impending match against Plymouth Argyle holds significant importance for QPR, akin to a ‘cup final’. Cifuentes acknowledged the team’s mixed record against similarly positioned clubs in the table but stressed the need for unwavering focus and determination in each encounter.

“Plymouth, Sheffield today, every match is crucial,” remarked Cifuentes. “We’ve made substantial progress compared to five months ago, and maintaining our humility and peak performance is key to securing results.”

As QPR braces for the challenges ahead, Cifuentes remains steadfast in his commitment to steering the team clear of relegation, undeterred by past experiences and fueled by a singular determination to succeed.
