Richie Wellens, the manager of Leyton Orient, had high praise for Peterborough United’s Ronnie Edwards, likening him to a ‘Rolls Royce’, following today’s League One showdown in East London.

In the aftermath of Orient’s 2-1 defeat to Peterborough United, Wellens shared his thoughts. Despite Ethan Galbraith’s goal in the second half, Orient couldn’t secure a win at Gaughan Group Stadium on Easter Monday.

Peterborough’s victory, marked by first-half goals from former Orient player Hector Kyprianou and Ephron Mason-Clark, saw Edwards shine in defense.

Wellens commended Peterborough’s professionalism and attitude, acknowledging that the loss dashed Orient’s hopes for a playoff spot.

“I admire them,” said Wellens. “They’re a formidable team with an excellent manager, and Edwards, in particular, stands out like a ‘Rolls Royce’ on the field, consistently initiating attacks. I also appreciate their post-match conduct; they acknowledged their supporters, then swiftly focused on their upcoming game at Wembley.”

Reflecting on the match, Wellens expressed disappointment in Orient’s defensive lapses leading to goals.

“We had a promising start, but lacked the final push. Our inability to convert opportunities into goals has been a recurring issue this season. Conversely, Peterborough’s passing game often culminated in scoring chances due to their talented squad.”

He attributed Orient’s struggles partly to injuries and inexperience, highlighting the need for improvement in midfield awareness.

“While injuries have plagued us, our young midfielders sometimes fail to anticipate counterattacks, which cost us dearly.”

Expressing his frustration with falling short of expectations, Wellens acknowledged the competitive nature of League One this season.

“Despite our efforts, we find ourselves trailing in the standings. It’s disappointing, considering the level of competition isn’t exceptionally high this year. However, we’ve given our all, and it’s disheartening to see us come up short.”

Orient currently sits in 10th place in League One, trailing the playoff positions by nine points.
