Having recently acquired Sam Darnold to fill the interim quarterback role following Kirk Cousins’ departure, the Vikings have now amassed considerable draft assets. This accumulation suggests a strong possibility of the team aiming to trade up in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft to secure one of the premier quarterback prospects.
One standout candidate on the Vikings’ radar is North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler identified the Vikings as an ideal landing spot for Maye, fueling speculation that Minnesota may pursue a trade to secure him.
Despite holding the 11th and 23rd picks in the draft, acquiring Maye would likely necessitate packaging these selections with additional assets to secure a top-three pick.
However, recent reports indicate a shift in the quarterback landscape, with another prospect surpassing Maye on several teams’ draft boards.
Interestingly, the Vikings have been linked to discussions with the Arizona Cardinals, owners of the fourth overall pick. This development raises the possibility that Maye, once considered a consensus top-three pick, could slide down to the fourth spot in the draft due to recent developments.
