Packers’ Smith, Nixon Hit Back at Bears’ Sweat After X Call Out…

On Friday, one of the Chicago Bears’ newest players made fun of two Green Bay Packers players on social media.

Bears defensive tackle Montez Sweat took to X on March 15 to vent his frustrations with Packers pass rusher Preston Smith and cornerback/kickoff returner Keisean Nixon, while the context of the previous exchange is still unclear.
Sweat wrote, “It’s up 🤬 😈, I done developed a real rivalry with Green Bay blame @PrestonSmith91 and @keiseannixon.”


Smith quickly replied with a post of his own.

He wrote, “🤷‍♂️ see you on the other side.”

Shortly afterward, Nixon added his voice, albeit one that was a little more provocative than his colleague’s.

Bears-Packers Rivalry Is Relatively New to Montez Sweat.

Given that Sweat is relatively new to the NFC North Division, it’s intriguing that he publicly declared a war with the Packers based on statements and/or acts by Smith and Nixon.

In order to acquire Sweat in late October 2023, Chicago traded a second-round pick to the Washington Commanders. Sweat was then signed to a four-year, $98 million contract extension by Chicago, which will keep him in the Windy City through the 2027 season.

As a member of the Bears, Sweat has only appeared in one game versus the Packers, and that was in Week 18, which was the final time Chicago played on a professional field. The Bears were defeated by the Packers 17–9 in the game that took place at Lambeau Field.

With the victory, Green Bay advanced to the postseason, where they stunned the Dallas Cowboys during Super Wildcard Weekend and then suffered a heartbreaking setback on the road against the San Francisco 49ers by a mere 3 points. In that game, Sweat had three tackles, one of which was for a loss.

Despite Sweat still being a member of the Commanders, the Packers defeated the Bears 38-20 in Chicago during Week 1.

Both Keisean Nixon and Preston Smith are expected to start for the Packers defense in the upcoming season.

Sweat does not have as much history in Green Bay as Smith and Nixon do, and both players are expected to be mainstays on the Packers defense for a number of seasons to come.

Smith is presently playing on a four-year, $52 million contract that will keep him under contract through 2026. He has spent the last five seasons with the team. Over the last five years, he has recorded 41.5 sacks for Green Bay, playing in 82 of the 83 regular-season games that were possible (79 starts).

Prior to the 2022 season, Nixon signed with the Packers, where he has played for the past two seasons. As a kickoff returner, Nixon has earned first-team All-Pro recognition each season. This summer, he inked a new three-year deal worth a total of $18 million to stay with Green Bay through 2026.

Nixon has become as a valuable member of the Packers’ backfield. Two seasons ago, he made just four defensive game starts. Last year, he started thirteen games as the team’s nickel cornerback.
