Ryan Johansen has a cryptic message as he makes his intentions clear to Flyers, John Tortorella…

Ryan Johansen, who was recently waived by the Philadelphia Flyers shortly after being acquired in a trade with the Colorado Avalanche involving Sean Walker, seems to have encountered complications possibly stemming from a history with Flyers coach John Tortorella. Johansen, aged 31, hasn’t played for the AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms since his waiver.

Insights from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on his podcast “32 Thoughts: The Podcast” shed light on the matter. Friedman suggested that the relationship between Tortorella and Johansen is complex, with efforts made for reconciliation. However, Johansen’s desire to play for the Flyers and the team’s willingness to engage in discussions were halted due to indications of Johansen dealing with an injury or another issue.

Friedman speculated that Johansen might become a buyout target for the Flyers in the upcoming summer, but his injured status complicates this possibility according to NHL regulations. Additionally, there may be lingering tensions due to Johansen’s representation by Kurt Overhardt, who also represents Cutter Gauthier, an NCAA player connected to the Flyers.

Johansen’s performance this season with the Avalanche has been notable, but concerns over his injury status need resolution before any decisions can be made by the Flyers.
