Marti Cifuentes: “I trust them well.”
QPR manager Marti Cifuentes has offered support to Asmir Begovic despite the goalkeeper’s recent error in their 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough.
Begovic, who has faced criticism for several mistakes this season, was deemed at fault for Middlesbrough’s second goal, failing to prevent Marcus Forss from scoring with a header at the far post.
When questioned about Begovic’s performances, Cifuentes refrained from individual judgment, emphasizing his trust in the players. He highlighted Begovic’s career experience and quality, expressing his desire to have him in the team during the relegation battle.
Despite the setback, Cifuentes remains optimistic about QPR’s chances of avoiding relegation, acknowledging the challenge ahead. He stressed the difficulty of the situation and emphasized the need for realistic expectations, expressing confidence in achieving their target with ten games remaining.
The defeat halted QPR’s four-match unbeaten run, which included impressive results against league leaders Leicester and a draw with West Brom. Cifuentes acknowledged their disappointment, particularly after a promising first half where they failed to capitalize on their dominance.
In response to the second-half dip in performance, Cifuentes made tactical substitutions to inject fresh energy into the team, but it proved insufficient to turn the tide. He attributed part of the team’s fatigue to the demanding schedule, with three games in quick succession against tough opponents.
