The Minnesota Vikings are gearing up for a significant offseason ahead of the 2024 NFL season. After a 2023 season marked by injuries, particularly to key players like Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson, the Vikings are aiming to rebuild and return to playoff contention.
The first step in this process is securing the signature of their franchise quarterback, Kirk Cousins. The next step is making a strong pick with their 11th overall selection in the upcoming NFL Draft. According to ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., the Vikings’ general manager, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, is expected to choose Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse, who could potentially become a defensive cornerstone for the team.
Kiper Jr. considered other options, such as cornerbacks Terrion Arnold (Alabama), Cooper DeJean (Iowa), and Nate Wiggins (Clemson), but ultimately believes that an edge rusher like Verse could be crucial, especially if Danielle Hunter leaves in free agency. Verse has shown promise as a pass-rusher and run defender during his time at FSU, although he has been inconsistent at times.
Before his Achilles injury in week eight against the Green Bay Packers, Kirk Cousins was having a strong season and was even in the MVP conversation. He had thrown for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just five interceptions in less than eight full games.
