Rumor: The New York Giants are ‘seriously’ considering a big 2024 NFL Draft trade…
The New York Giants are facing numerous uncertainties, but one thing is clear: they need a new quarterback if they don’t believe Daniel Jones is a long-term solution.
Jones has struggled since signing a significant extension last year, and the Giants are likely seeking a way to avoid his hefty contract.
Drafting a rookie QB in the 2024 NFL Draft would be a smart move, given the talent in this year’s QB class. However, the top QB prospects may be off the board before the Giants have a chance to select them.
As a result, there are reports suggesting that the Giants could make a move before the draft.
Daniel Bates of The Spun wrote an article about the Giants potentially trading up to secure one of the top picks in the 2024 Draft if they decide Jones isn’t the long-term answer.
He quoted ESPN’s Jordan Raanan on the Giants’ potential strategy:
“The Giants have the No. 6 overall pick and two second-rounders… They can use those to potentially look at a quarterback. I’ve been told by multiple sources that the Giants — if the situation presents itself correctly — the Giants would be at least ‘seriously willing’ to look at the quarterback position. … So what happens over the next few weeks, next few months that will strongly dictate what the Giants do either at the top of the first round, or with those two second-round picks, potentially trading back in to the end of the first round.”
Jones has been underwhelming for the Giants since signing his contract. He played only six games before being benched in favor of Tommy DeVito, completing 68% of his passes for 909 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions.
If the Giants are genuinely committed to giving Jones another chance, it may be because they believe it would be too costly to acquire one of the top three picks. However, there’s little reason to believe Joe Schoen wouldn’t try to land one of the top QB prospects if he doesn’t have full confidence in Jones for the upcoming season.
