MORE SAD NEWS FOR PADRES: Just In Padres’ 28-year-old Venezuelan Luis Arraez Ruled Out For the Rest Of the Season  After a Devastating Incident In…

In heartbreaking news for Padres fans and the entire baseball community, the 28-year-old Venezuelan infielder and one of the most consistent hitters in the game, has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the season following a devastating incident that occurred earlier this week.

The Padres confirmed the news in an emotional statement released Monday, revealing that Arraez suffered a serious lower-body injury during pregame warmups that will require season-ending medical treatment. While the team has not released full details yet, sources indicate the injury involved significant damage to his knee, likely requiring surgery and extensive rehab.

“This is a tough day for all of us,” said manager Mike Shildt. “Luis is not just an incredible player — he’s the heartbeat of our clubhouse. To lose him like this, in such an unexpected and unfortunate way, is a huge blow.”

Arraez, known across MLB for his elite contact hitting and ability to spray the ball to all fields, had quickly become a fan favorite since arriving in San Diego. In 2025, he was off to another impressive start, hitting well over .300 and providing much-needed consistency at the top of the lineup. His leadership, energy, and professionalism were just as valuable as his bat.

“He was a huge part of what we were building this season,” said Padres GM A.J. Preller. “Our thoughts are with him as he begins recovery, and we’re going to do everything we can to support him through this process.”

Teammates were visibly shaken by the news, many of them taking to social media to express their support and heartbreak. “Prayers up for my brother,” wrote one teammate. “This game can be cruel sometimes.”

With Arraez sidelined, the Padres will now need to reshuffle their infield and lineup strategy. Young players and depth pieces will be asked to step up, but replacing Arraez’s production — and presence — will be no easy task.

The incident comes at a critical point in the season as the Padres fight to stay in playoff contention. While the loss of Arraez is a major setback, the team remains committed to pushing forward in his honor.

“Luis would want us to keep going, to fight,” said Shildt. “And that’s exactly what we’ll do.”
