The recruiting trail just delivered a massive win for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
In what’s being hailed as a game-changing commitment, Virginia Tech has officially landed one of the most sought-after and versatile recruits in the 2025 class, confirming the commitment of 4-star athlete Jayden “J-Roc” Mitchell, a dynamic two-way star out of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Mitchell, listed at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, has drawn national attention for his ability to dominate on both sides of the ball — playing wide receiver, defensive back, and even returning kicks with elite explosiveness. He chose the Hokies over a loaded offer sheet that included Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, and Florida State.
Virginia Tech head coach Brent Pry made it official on Saturday morning, calling Mitchell a “program-changer.”
“Jayden is the kind of competitor and playmaker that raises the standard in your locker room. He’s explosive, he’s smart, and he brings toughness in every phase of the game,” Pry said. “We’re fired up to have him join the Hokie family.”
Mitchell made his announcement during a live stream on social media, rocking a Virginia Tech hat and hoodie as he revealed his decision.
“I just felt the love from day one,” Mitchell said. “Coach Pry and the staff made me feel like a priority, not just a number. I want to be part of building something special in Blacksburg.”
The commitment instantly boosts Virginia Tech’s 2025 recruiting class into national relevance and gives them a marquee name to build around moving forward. Mitchell is expected to line up as both a wide receiver and a nickel defender at the college level, offering rare flexibility and immediate impact potential.
Recruiting analysts have praised Mitchell’s instincts, physicality, and playmaking ability — calling him “a Swiss Army knife with SEC-level athleticism.” He totaled over 1,500 all-purpose yards and 9 touchdowns last season while locking down opposing receivers defensively.
With Mitchell now on board, Virginia Tech sends a loud message to the ACC — the Hokies are back in the fight for top-tier talent and ready to rise again.
