Breaking: Broncos’ Shockingly Cut-Ties With Fans Favorite $60 Million Superstar With The Arrival Of…

The Denver Broncos have made a bold and unexpected roster move, parting ways with veteran defensive end John Franklin-Myers as they continue to reshape their defense for the future. The decision comes as the team prioritizes extending standout edge rusher Nik Bonitto, who has emerged as one of the NFL’s elite pass rushers and is in line for a lucrative contract extension.

With limited financial flexibility and a stacked defensive front, Franklin-Myers became the odd man out. The 28-year-old had one season remaining on the four-year, $55 million contract extension he originally signed with the New York Jets in 2021. The Broncos had previously restructured that deal into a two-year, $15 million extension after acquiring him via trade in April 2024.

Financial Constraints Force Broncos’ Hand

The Broncos defense exceeded expectations in 2024, finishing as one of the league’s top units and helping the team reach the postseason for the first time since their 2015 Super Bowl-winning season. Denver led the league with 63 sacks, while star cornerback Patrick Surtain II earned NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Franklin-Myers played a key role, racking up 7.0 sacks and contributing to a dominant front seven.

However, with Zach Allen proving to be a more productive and versatile lineman and Bonitto poised for a massive payday, the Broncos determined that keeping Franklin-Myers was no longer financially viable. Reports suggest Bonitto could receive a four-year, $102 million extension, further solidifying his place as the future leader of Denver’s pass rush.

Broncos Shift Focus to Offensive Needs

While Franklin-Myers’ departure leaves a gap on the defensive line, the Broncos are unlikely to prioritize replacing him in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team has pressing needs at running back and wide receiver, and with their defense already among the league’s best, resources will likely be allocated toward boosting an underperforming offense.

Denver has also bolstered its defensive core with major free-agent additions, including safety Talanoa Hufanga and linebacker Dre Greenlaw, ensuring that their top-tier defense remains intact despite Franklin-Myers’ exit.

With his release, Franklin-Myers now becomes one of the most intriguing free agents on the market. Despite turning 29 next season, his ability to disrupt opposing offenses will make him a coveted target for teams looking to bolster their defensive front.

As the Broncos continue their offseason overhaul, all eyes will be on their next moves—particularly when it comes to locking down Bonitto with a long-term deal.
