In a surprising move, the Atlanta Braves have released 31-year-old Dominican right-handed pitcher Dany Jiménez. Jiménez, who signed a minor league contract with the Braves in January, had a challenging spring training, appearing in three games and pitching only one inning. During these outings, he faced ten batters, walked five, and allowed two runs.
Jiménez’s recent performance with the Oakland Athletics in 2024 saw him struggle with control, walking over 16% of batters faced and recording a 4.91 ERA across 25 2/3 innings. His average fastball velocity also declined from 93.9 mph in 2022 to 92.5 mph in 2024.
The Braves’ bullpen depth, bolstered by veterans like Raisel Iglesias and recent additions such as Hector Neris and Enyel De Los Santos, made it difficult for Jiménez to secure a spot on the roster. With his release, Jiménez is now a free agent seeking new opportunities.
