In a significant roster update, the New York Rangers have confirmed the departure of two veteran players, defenseman Ryan Lindgren and forward Jimmy Vesey, as part of a trade with the Colorado Avalanche. This move reflects the Rangers’ ongoing efforts to restructure their lineup amid a challenging season.
On March 1, 2025, the Rangers traded Lindgren and Vesey, along with the rights to unsigned draft pick Hank Kempf, to the Avalanche. In return, they acquired center Juuso Pärssinen, veteran defenseman Calvin de Haan, and two conditional 2025 draft picks. Both Lindgren and Vesey were approaching unrestricted free agency, prompting the Rangers to make strategic decisions to gain value before their contracts expired.
Ryan Lindgren, known for his defensive reliability and leadership, had been a mainstay on the Rangers’ blue line. His departure marks the end of a notable partnership with fellow defenseman Adam Fox, who expressed the difficulty of adjusting to Lindgren’s absence, stating, “It was obviously tough. Someone I’ve played with my whole career and knew from before.”
