The Cincinnati Reds have been dealt another tough blow as veteran outfielder Will Benson is officially on his way to an NL rival. Manager Terry Francona and the Reds’ front office had been hopeful to retain the talented slugger, but after contract negotiations failed to materialize, Benson has opted to take his talents elsewhere within the National League.
This departure adds to the growing list of setbacks for the Reds, who have been struggling to maintain key pieces of their roster ahead of the 2025 season. Benson, known for his power at the plate and defensive versatility, was a crucial asset for Cincinnati. Losing him to a rival only compounds the team’s challenges as they look to stay competitive in a fiercely contested NL Central race.
Francona addressed the situation, acknowledging the difficulty of losing a key player but remaining optimistic about the team’s future. “Will was a great part of this organization, and we’re obviously disappointed to see him go,” Francona said. “That said, we trust in our front office and scouting department to continue building a strong team.”
The Reds must now pivot quickly, looking for replacements either through free agency or within their own farm system. With spring training around the corner, the pressure is on Cincinnati to fill the void left by Benson and solidify their lineup for the upcoming campaign.
