In a significant move ahead of the NHL trade deadline, the Chicago Blackhawks have acquired the 39-year-old defenseman from the Utah Hockey Club. The deal, finalized on March 7, 2025, also brings forward Aku Raty and defenseman Victor Soderstrom to Chicago, with Utah receiving the Blackhawks’ 2026 fifth-round pick in return.
Weber, a three-time NHL All-Star, brings a wealth of experience to the Blackhawks’ blue line. Known for his powerful shot and physical presence, the 39-year-old defenseman has accumulated 589 points over his illustrious career. Despite his age, Weber’s leadership and defensive acumen are expected to bolster Chicago’s young roster.
The acquisition of Aku Raty and Victor Soderstrom further strengthens the Blackhawks’ depth. Raty, a promising forward, has showcased his offensive skills in the AHL, while Soderstrom, a former first-round pick, adds mobility and puck-moving capabilities to the defense.
