SAD NEWS: Mets’ Pete Alonso suffers gruesome injury in spring training…

Just over a week after signing a contract extension with the New York Mets, first baseman Pete Alonso suffered a scary injury during spring training when he was struck in the face with a ball while playing first base.

Video footage captured by SNY showed Mets trainers rushing to Alonso’s aid as he lay on the ground, writhing in pain and clutching his face. The unsettling scene left teammates and fans concerned as staff members tended to his injuries at the Mets’ spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Alonso remained on the ground for several moments before managing to get to his feet. He then walked off the field under his own power, heading to the dugout and down the tunnel, presumably for further medical evaluation.

Despite the frightening nature of the incident, Alonso later returned to practice, appearing to be in good spirits and in stable condition.

This injury scare comes shortly after Alonso inked a two-year, $54 million bridge deal with the Mets following a prolonged free agency period this past offseason. The slugger, a key piece of the Mets’ lineup, is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s success this season.

While initial reports suggest that Alonso avoided serious harm, the Mets organization and fans alike will be closely monitoring his condition as spring training progresses.
