The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to undergo significant changes to their offensive line this offseason, as reports indicate that two key starters will be departing in free agency.
According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers are set to part ways with left tackle
, both of whom played pivotal roles in the team’s offensive front over the past season.
“Some of those decisions have likely already been made. For example, they are not expected to re-sign two of their starting offensive linemen — left tackle Dan Moore Jr. and guard James Daniels — allowing them to enter the free agent market on March 12,” Dulac reported.
James Daniels started the first four games of the 2023 season before suffering a torn Achilles, sidelining him for the remainder of the year. His departure comes as little shock, as the Steelers had previously indicated they would not engage in contract negotiations with him, signaling an end to his tenure in Pittsburgh.
Dan Moore Jr. has been the Steelers’ starting left tackle for the past four seasons, providing stability on the edge. However, his departure suggests the team is shifting focus toward younger talent. Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu have shown promise, and with the possibility of adding more offensive linemen in the draft, Pittsburgh appears committed to reshaping its front five.
With no clear path to landing a top-tier quarterback this offseason, the Steelers may be prioritizing a dominant offensive line to elevate their offensive play. A strong, revamped front could provide much-needed stability and protection, allowing their current quarterbacks to thrive.
As free agency approaches, Pittsburgh’s offensive line will be one of the biggest storylines to watch. Stay tuned for further updates on the Steelers’ roster moves.
