GOOD NEWS: The Phillies Have Officially Reached a Mutual Agreement to Bring-in the $140 Million Top Talented Star Player…

As of February 17, 2025, there have been no official reports or announcements regarding the Philadelphia Phillies acquiring star player on a $140 million contract. Recent developments indicate that Pressly, a veteran reliever, was traded from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs approximately two weeks ago. In this transaction, the Cubs received Pressly and cash considerations, while the Astros acquired Minor League right-handed pitcher Juan Bello. The Cubs are responsible for $8.5 million of Pressly’s $14 million salary for the upcoming season.

Pressly, 36, had been with the Astros since 2018 and served as their closer from 2020 to 2023. In the 2024 season, he transitioned to a setup role following the Astros’ acquisition of ace reliever Josh Hader. During that season, Pressly recorded a 3.49 ERA with 58 strikeouts over 56 2/3 innings in 59 appearances.

The Cubs pursued Pressly to add experience to their bullpen, especially after missing out on free-agent left-hander Tanner Scott, who signed a four-year, $72 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pressly waived his no-trade clause to facilitate the move to Chicago, where he is expected to assume the closer role.

Given these recent transactions, there is no substantiated information supporting the claim that the Philadelphia Phillies have reached a mutual agreement to acquire Ryan Pressly on a $140 million contract.
