The New York Mets have announced the re-signing of All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso to a two-year contract, ensuring the return of one of the franchise’s most beloved players. The deal is reportedly valued at $54 million and includes a $10 million signing bonus, with an option for Alonso to extend through the 2026 season at $24 million.

Alonso, 30, has been a cornerstone for the Mets since his debut in 2019. Over his career, he has amassed 226 home runs, placing him third in Mets history, and leads Major League Baseball with 586 RBIs during this period. In the previous season, Alonso contributed 34 homers and 88 RBIs, playing a pivotal role in the Mets’ journey to the National League Championship Series.

Co-owner Steve Cohen expressed his enthusiasm about retaining Alonso, stating, “Pete has been an integral part of our success, and we’re thrilled to have him continue his journey with us.”

This re-signing comes amidst a series of strategic moves by the Mets, including the acquisition of outfielder Juan Soto on a record 15-year, $765 million deal.

Alonso’s return is expected to bolster the Mets’ lineup as they prepare for the upcoming season. His consistent performance and leadership on and off the field have solidified his status as a fan favorite and a key player in the Mets’ pursuit of championship success.
