The New York Mets have made a key move to bolster their bullpen, officially re-signing Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal for the 2025 season. This signing adds much-needed depth to the Mets’ relief corps as they continue to strengthen their pitching staff ahead of spring training.
Stanek, a hard-throwing right-hander, spent the 2024 season with the Mets after being acquired midseason. His ability to work in high-leverage situations and deliver clutch performances made him a valuable piece of the bullpen. The 33-year-old reliever posted a solid 3.41 ERA with a strong strikeout rate, proving he still has plenty left in the tank.
By bringing back Stanek, the Mets ensure they have a veteran presence in the late innings alongside key arms like Edwin Díaz, Brooks Raley, and Drew Smith. With his ability to touch triple digits on the radar gun and handle high-pressure moments, Stanek provides manager Carlos Mendoza with another trusted option out of the ‘pen.
The Mets have made bullpen upgrades a priority this offseason, and retaining Stanek is a step in the right direction. His experience as a setup man and potential closer option gives the team more flexibility as they look to improve on last year’s inconsistent relief performance.
President of Baseball Operations David Stearns praised the move, stating, “Ryne was an important piece for us last season, and we’re excited to have him back. His competitiveness and experience will be key assets in our bullpen.”
While Stanek’s return is a positive development, the Mets are expected to remain active in the pitching market. With questions still surrounding their rotation and bullpen depth, this move could be the first of several as the team looks to solidify its staff before Opening Day.
For now, Mets fans can celebrate the return of a reliable bullpen arm, as the team continues shaping its roster for what they hope will be a strong 2025 campaign.
