The Philadelphia Phillies have made a bold statement heading into the 2025 MLB season by officially announcing the addition of three prominent All-Stars to address their pitching concerns. The acquisitions signal the team’s determination to contend for a World Series title and eliminate the inconsistencies that plagued their pitching staff in 2024.
The Phillies’ front office revealed the signings of starting pitchers Shane Bieber and Lucas Giolito, along with All-Star closer Josh Hader. Together, these three players bring a wealth of experience, talent, and proven success to Philadelphia’s roster.
Shane Bieber, the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner, is coming off another solid season where he posted a 3.28 ERA with 198 strikeouts in 2024. Known for his pinpoint command and ability to dominate lineups, Bieber provides a significant boost to the top of the Phillies’ rotation.
Lucas Giolito, a two-time All-Star, brings a powerful arsenal and veteran presence to the Phillies’ pitching staff. He recorded 190 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA last season, further solidifying his reputation as a reliable starter capable of handling big-game moments.
Josh Hader, widely regarded as one of the best closers in baseball, will anchor the Phillies’ bullpen. The five-time All-Star recorded 36 saves in 2024 with a 1.89 ERA, demonstrating his ability to shut down opposing teams in high-pressure situations. His addition addresses a critical need for a consistent and dominant closer to protect leads late in games.
“Adding Shane, Lucas, and Josh to our pitching staff was a top priority this offseason,” said Phillies General Manager Sam Fuld. “Each of these players brings unique skills and a winning mentality that align with our vision for 2025. We’re excited to see how they contribute to our success on the field.”
Phillies manager Rob Thomson echoed the excitement, stating, “Pitching wins championships, and these additions put us in a great position to compete at the highest level. Our fans should be thrilled about what’s to come this season.”
The Phillies’ aggressive moves in the offseason demonstrate their commitment to building a championship-caliber team. With Bieber, Giolito, and Hader now in the fold, expectations are high as the team prepares for spring training and the quest for postseason glory in 2025.
