The Philadelphia Phillies have made a significant addition to their bullpen, officially announcing the acquisition of Mets reliever Brooks Raley in a move aimed at addressing their left-handed pitching gap. The deal, worth $15 million, is expected to bolster the Phillies’ relief corps and add a reliable veteran presence to their roster.
Raley, 36, has been one of the most consistent left-handed relievers in the league in recent years. During the 2024 season, he posted a 2.89 ERA with 68 strikeouts over 62.1 innings, showcasing his ability to neutralize both left-handed and right-handed hitters. His performance also included a career-high 24 holds, underscoring his value in high-leverage situations.
“Adding Brooks to our bullpen is a huge boost for us,” said Phillies General Manager Sam Fuld. “He’s a proven performer with the experience and versatility to handle critical late-game situations. We’re confident he’ll play a key role in helping us achieve our goals this season.”
The move comes as the Phillies continue to fine-tune their roster in pursuit of a deep playoff run. After falling short in the postseason last year, the team has prioritized shoring up its bullpen, which was inconsistent at times during the 2024 campaign. Raley’s arrival fills a crucial void, giving the Phillies a dependable left-handed option to complement their right-handed arms.
Raley expressed excitement about joining the Phillies, stating, “I’m thrilled to be part of such a talented team with a passionate fan base. The Phillies have a great tradition, and I’m looking forward to contributing to their success. I’m ready to get to work and do whatever it takes to help this team win.”
Phillies manager Rob Thomson also praised the acquisition, noting Raley’s ability to adapt to various roles in the bullpen. “Brooks is a competitor who knows how to handle pressure. Whether it’s getting a tough lefty out or pitching a full inning, he gives us a lot of flexibility,” Thomson said.
With spring training just around the corner, the Phillies’ front office has sent a clear message that they are all-in on building a championship-caliber team. The addition of Raley not only strengthens their bullpen but also signals their commitment to addressing weaknesses and maximizing their chances in the upcoming season.
