The New York Mets have put an end to weeks of speculation by officially re-signing their beloved homegrown slugger, Pete Alonso. The 30-year-old first baseman, a cornerstone of the franchise and fan favorite, has agreed to a lucrative seven-year deal worth $182 million, keeping him in Queens through the 2032 season.
The Mets made the announcement on Tuesday, bringing relief and joy to their passionate fanbase. After weeks of rumors suggesting Alonso might test free agency or be moved in a blockbuster trade, the deal signals the organization’s commitment to retaining their core talent. “Pete Alonso represents everything we want in a player,” said Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns. “He’s a leader on and off the field, and we’re thrilled to keep him as a key part of our future.”
Since debuting with the Mets in 2019, Alonso has become one of the most prolific power hitters in Major League Baseball. He set the rookie home run record with 53 homers that year and has since been a consistent force in the lineup. A four-time All-Star and two-time Home Run Derby champion, Alonso’s presence in the middle of the batting order has been invaluable. In 2024, he slashed.265/.344/.518 with 42 home runs and 112 RBIs, proving once again why he’s considered one of the best in the game.
Mets fans erupted with excitement on social media as news of Alonso’s re-signing broke. Many expressed their relief that the “Polar Bear” would remain the face of the franchise. “This is the best offseason move the Mets could make,” one fan tweeted. “Pete is the heart and soul of this team.”
