The Miami Hurricanes have suffered a blow with the departure of offensive linemen Zion Nelson and Frankie Tinilau to the transfer portal, as reported by Pete Nakos of On3.
Nelson, once a standout left tackle for Miami, played 35 games with 32 starts from 2019-2021 before injuries derailed his career. He was medically retired after appearing in just one game since 2021. Tinilau, a former rugby player turned offensive lineman, redshirted his freshman year and saw limited action in 2024.
Despite their departures, Miami remains strong on the offensive line, returning key players like tackles Francis Mauigoa and Markel Bell. The Hurricanes may also explore the portal for additional depth or a starting center, continuing Mario Cristobal’s commitment to bolstering the offensive line.
While Nelson and Tinilau’s exits mark the end of their Miami journeys, the team is well-positioned for the future.
