The Philadelphia Phillies have added depth to their pitching staff by signing veteran right-hander to a one-year, $4 million contract. The deal was finalized on Monday as the Phillies continue to fine-tune their roster for the 2025 season.
Ross, 31, appeared in 10 starts and 25 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last year, posting a 3-6 record with a 3.77 ERA. A 2011 first-round pick by the San Diego Padres, Ross has accumulated 123 career appearances across seven MLB seasons with the Washington Nationals and Brewers. He holds a 4.19 career ERA, complemented by 469 strikeouts and 170 walks in 573 innings pitched.
The addition of Ross follows a series of calculated offseason moves by the Phillies, including acquiring left-hander Jesús Luzardo from the Marlins and signing outfielder Max Kepler to a one-year, $10 million contract.
Ross brings versatility to the Phillies’ bullpen, with experience as both a starter and reliever, making him a valuable asset for manager Rob Thomson. His signing provides additional stability as the team aims to maintain its competitive edge in the NL East.
With the Phillies’ sights set on another postseason run, Ross’ veteran presence and adaptability could prove instrumental in bolstering the pitching depth needed for a successful 2025 campaign.
