The Philadelphia Phillies, aiming to strengthen their roster this offseason, are shifting their focus toward free-agent options as trade discussions with the Chicago Cubs appear to have stalled. The Phillies had been pursuing outfielder Cody Bellinger and starter Kyle Hendricks, but no progress has been made in negotiations.
Instead, Philadelphia is now exploring four key free agents to address their needs. Outfielder Teoscar Hernández and veteran slugger Joc Pederson have emerged as immediate targets to bolster the corner outfield. Hernández, known for his power and consistency, could provide a much-needed boost to the Phillies’ lineup. Pederson offers versatility as a left-handed bat but would primarily fit in a designated hitter role.
Additionally, Philadelphia is eyeing pitchers Jordan Montgomery and Marcus Stroman to add depth to their starting rotation. Montgomery, a proven postseason performer, brings reliability and experience, while Stroman’s ability to induce ground balls could thrive in Citizens Bank Park.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski remains committed to improving the Phillies’ lineup and rotation without sacrificing top prospects. While the stalled Cubs trade remains on hold, these free-agent options could provide immediate solutions for a team with championship aspirations.
