The Philadelphia Phillies are actively exploring the free-agent market to upgrade their bullpen, reportedly showing interest in former Yankees relievers Clay Holmes and Tommy Kahnle. With the MLB Winter Meetings underway, the Phillies aim to reinforce their pitching staff as they prepare for another postseason push in 2025.
While the Phillies won’t pursue Juan Soto, whose contract could exceed $600 million, they remain aggressive in targeting players to complement their roster. Team president Dave Dombrowski has expressed the need for one more high-leverage reliever to solidify their bullpen, which already includes Orion Kerkering, Matt Strahm, and Jose Alvarado.
In addition, the team is exploring potential trades involving Alec Bohm and Ranger Suárez, while outfielder Nick Castellanos remains on the trade block, though the Phillies might need to absorb part of his remaining $40 million contract to facilitate a deal.
As the Phillies aim to build on their recent playoff appearances, adding experienced arms like Holmes or Kahnle could provide the depth and versatility necessary to compete at the highest level.
