Auburn football suffered a significant blow on Signing Day as 4-star cornerback Shamar Arnoux flipped his commitment to Florida State, leaving the Tigers short-handed in their 2025 recruiting class. Arnoux’s departure stings particularly hard, as his Auburn pledge lasted less than a month following a flip from USC on November 14.
The Carrollton, Georgia native is ranked as the No. 383 player overall, the No. 37 cornerback, and the No. 53 player from Georgia according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Arnoux is a dynamic defender with size and athleticism, making him a prized recruit in this cycle.
Florida State had been in the mix for Arnoux as early as June, hosting him for an official visit over the summer. Auburn also brought him in for an official visit during the same period but was initially edged out by USC, where Arnoux committed before his November flip to Auburn. Now, after brief stints with both programs, he has opted to join the Seminoles, further strengthening their already impressive recruiting class.
Auburn’s efforts to secure Arnoux included his visit for the regular-season home finale against Texas A&M and follow-up conversations with the coaching staff. However, Florida State’s persistent communication ultimately swayed the talented cornerback, even though he didn’t make a return visit to Tallahassee.
Arnoux’s decision highlights the challenges of recruiting in the modern landscape, where NIL opportunities, relationships, and late-stage pitches often reshape commitments. For Auburn, his departure leaves a void in its secondary for the 2025 class, while for Florida State, it marks a significant addition to an already surging program.
The Tigers must now regroup and refocus their recruiting efforts to fill the gap left by Arnoux. With Signing Day bringing both triumphs and heartbreaks, Auburn’s staff will need to lean on their relationships with remaining targets to ensure a strong close to their 2025 recruiting cycle.
As for Arnoux, his flip adds to Florida State’s growing reputation as a powerhouse on the recruiting trail, setting the stage for what could be a bright future in Tallahassee.
