Officially PHILLIES News: The Phillies Officially Reach a Mutual Agreement Swap Alec Bohm for…

The Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers might have the perfect setup for a blockbuster trade that benefits both franchises. According to a recent mock trade proposal, the Phillies could address their bullpen needs by moving All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm in exchange for Milwaukee’s elite closer, Devin Williams.

The Phillies, in need of a dominant, high-leverage closer, are reportedly open to parting ways with Bohm. Meanwhile, the Brewers face the looming departure of star shortstop Willy Adames, making Bohm a valuable addition to their lineup and infield.

A Potential Swap

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden suggested a scenario where Williams and a Brewers prospect head to Philadelphia in exchange for Bohm, as highlighted by Patrick McAvoy of Milwaukee Brewers on SI.

“The Phillies need an elite, right-handed, high-leverage closer, and I think this deal makes a lot of sense for them, especially if they could turn around and sign Alex Bregman or Willy Adames to replace Bohm at the hot corner,” Bowden explained.

On the Brewers’ side, Bowden noted that acquiring Bohm would solidify their third-base position while allowing young talent like Brice Turang and Freddy Peralta to settle into the infield alongside a promising shortstop.

Why It Works

For the Phillies: Williams is a proven two-time National League Reliever of the Year. Despite being limited to 22 games in 2024 due to injury, the 30-year-old posted an incredible 1.25 ERA, 0.969 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts with 14 saves. When healthy, he’s among the best closers in the game, and his addition could help the Phillies solidify their bullpen in their pursuit of a World Series title.

For the Brewers: Bohm, a 2024 All-Star, showcased his offensive prowess last season with a .280/.332/.448 slash line, 15 home runs, and 97 RBIs. While he experienced a second-half slump, Bohm’s ceiling remains high, and he could become a core piece in Milwaukee’s lineup.

A Win-Win Deal

This potential trade aligns perfectly with both teams’ needs. The Phillies would gain an elite closer to bolster their bullpen, while the Brewers fill a glaring hole at third base with a rising star in Bohm. If executed, this swap could have significant implications for the National League landscape, positioning both teams as serious contenders in 2025.
