Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin delivered disappointing news to fans on Sunday, confirming that star running back will be out for four months due to a significant foot injury.
Harris, a fan favorite and cornerstone of the Steelers’ offense, sustained the injury during offseason training. Reports indicate that the injury involves a fracture, requiring surgery and an extended recovery period. The setback is a major loss for the team, as Harris has been instrumental in their offensive success since being drafted in the first round in 2021.
“Najee means so much to this team, not just for his play on the field but as a leader in the locker room,” Tomlin said during a press conference. “We’ll miss him, but we know he’ll attack the rehab process with the same intensity he brings to every game.”
Harris had another strong season in 2024, rushing for 1,185 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 423 receiving yards and 3 scores. His ability to both grind out tough yardage and make explosive plays has been a cornerstone of the Steelers’ offense.
In his absence, the Steelers will likely turn to backup running backs Jaylen Warren and Anthony McFarland Jr. to fill the void. However, replacing Harris’s production and presence will be a tall order as the team navigates a highly competitive AFC North.
The Steelers, who have high aspirations for the upcoming season, will need to rally around this challenge as they look to stay in contention. Fans and teammates alike are hopeful for Harris’s full recovery and eagerly await his return to the field.
