Good News: The 30-year-old MLB Promising Top Star Cuts-Ties With Parent Team For $240 Million Deal With Mets…

The Baltimore Orioles are entering a pivotal offseason. Over the last few years, the franchise has methodically built a formidable roster, primarily by nurturing a talented core of young players. However, the next phase of their rebuild involves retaining key players as they hit free agency—a challenge the Orioles now face with ace Corbin Burnes.

Burnes, who delivered a stellar performance in his lone season with Baltimore, is the top free agent the team risks losing this winter. The right-hander is attracting considerable interest from multiple franchises, with analysts doubting Baltimore’s ability to match the competition. Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer predicts Burnes will sign with the New York Mets on a seven-year, $240 million deal.

“While a return to the Orioles via the qualifying offer is off the table, Burnes re-signing with Baltimore isn’t completely out of the question,” Rymer explained. “However, insiders like Jeff Passan highlight the San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays as frontrunners, with the Yankees and Red Sox also showing interest. Still, the Mets loom as a strong contender due to their financial muscle and connections within the league.”

Burnes’ link to the Mets is particularly intriguing. Their president of baseball operations, David Stearns, previously served as GM of the Milwaukee Brewers, where Burnes became a star. Additionally, Mets owner Steve Cohen has proven he’s unafraid to spend big to secure elite talent.

“If the Mets fail to land Juan Soto, Burnes becomes their top target,” Rymer noted.

With Cohen’s deep pockets and Stearns’ familiarity with Burnes, the Mets are well-positioned to dominate this offseason’s free agent market. Whether they secure Burnes or pivot to another marquee name, New York’s aggressive pursuit underscores their commitment to building a championship-caliber team.
