Good News: Mets Officially Make an Impactful Move; ACQUIRING the Cy Young Award Winner In a $224 Million Deal…

The New York Mets have made a game-changing move in their pursuit of starting rotation depth, reportedly targeting a massive acquisition of former Cy Young winner. With Jose Quintana, Luis Severino, and Sean Manaea entering free agency, the Mets need experienced starters, and Burnes fits the bill as an ace.

According to recent reports, the Mets’ president of baseball operations, David Stearns, is in talks to land Burnes in a seven-year, $224 million deal, a move that would bolster the Mets’ rotation alongside standout Kodai Senga.

Burnes, a right-hander renowned for his consistency and skill, has been a force since 2020, amassing a 52-31 record with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP across 816 2/3 innings. His resume includes four All-Star appearances and a 2021 Cy Young Award win after leading the league with a 2.43 ERA over 167 innings.

MLB Network Radio’s Jim Bowden and Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller suggest Burnes is the Mets’ top priority, with Miller noting Burnes’ strong record of durability, including three consecutive seasons logging 190 or more innings.

Stearns, who was previously the GM for the Brewers during Burnes’ tenure, is familiar with Burnes’ strengths and is reportedly eager to add him to the Mets’ lineup. This high-profile signing would signal the Mets’ commitment to competing in the NL East and establishing a strong rotation with Burnes and Senga as cornerstones for 2025.
