The New York Mets have kicked off their offseason by signing veteran pitcher Dylan Covey to a one-year contract. Covey, 33, is set to earn $850,000 if he makes the major league roster, or $350,000 if he spends time in the minors.

Last season, Covey held a 2.66 ERA across 18 games with Philadelphia’s Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Double-A Reading, and Class A Clearwater teams, recording 19 strikeouts over 20.1 innings. His pitch arsenal includes a 93.8 mph sinker, alongside cutters, splitters, and sliders, which he utilized effectively in the minors.

Covey, who posted a 3.69 ERA with the Phillies last season, has battled injuries, including a shoulder strain that kept him sidelined until late July. He became a free agent in October, ultimately choosing the Mets as his next destination.

Throughout his career, Covey has a 7-32 record with a 6.18 ERA over five seasons, pitching for teams like the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Dodgers, and Phillies. He adds valuable experience to the Mets’ bullpen, particularly as a middle reliever with 60 strikeouts in 89.1 innings and a 4.33 ERA in relief appearances.
