The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed running back Aaron Shampklin to their practice squad, as announced on Wednesday. Shampklin, a former Harvard standout, cleared waivers on Tuesday and re-joins the Steelers as their fifth running back after Jonathan Ward’s recent promotion to the active roster.
Shampklin, who was initially added to the active roster before the Steelers’ game against the Colts, played in three games for Pittsburgh. However, as the roster became healthier, Jaylen Warren took over Shampklin’s role, and Ward added value on special teams. Veteran running back Cordarrelle Patterson is also expected to return following the bye week.
After spending the entirety of training camp with the Steelers, Shampklin’s return comes on the heels of the team releasing La’Mical Perine from the practice squad on Tuesday. Now carrying five running backs, the Steelers may still turn to Perine if injuries arise, but for now, they’ll look to stabilize the rest of their roster.
