Bellinger, who revitalized his career in 2023 with the Chicago Cubs, batted .307 with 26 home runs and 97 RBIs. His resurgence came after several inconsistent seasons, but his 2023 form proved he still has MVP-level talent. Known for his combination of power, speed, and defensive prowess, Bellinger also brings positional flexibility, able to play both outfield and first base. MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic had long speculated that Bellinger would be a fit for the Phillies, especially with their need for a star outfielder. His predictions turned out to be accurate, as the Phillies secured Bellinger despite competition from other MLB teams. According to Bowden, the deal is likely to be worth around $112 million over four years, or $28 million AAV, putting Bellinger in line with similar elite players such as George Springer.
The acquisition marks a major step for the Phillies, who were also linked to other big-name targets like Juan Soto. However, Bellinger presents a more realistic option, providing them with the power bat they desperately needed without the high price tag or trade demands of other top-tier stars.
