Done Deal: Knights Officially Confirm the Acquisition of the $52 Million Superstar to Strengthen Bruce Cassidy’s Roster…

The Vegas Golden Knights have officially secured one of their key players for the long term. On Thursday, October 24, the team announced the signing of star defenseman Shea Theodore to a seven-year contract extension worth $52 million, translating to an annual cap hit of $7.425 million. The 29-year-old blueliner has been a crucial part of the Knights’ success, including their 2022-23 Stanley Cup victory.

Theodore, currently in the final season of his previous seven-year contract (which carried an annual value of $5.2 million), has earned a significant raise following his standout performances. So far this season, Theodore has already recorded seven points (one goal, six assists) in six games, underscoring his value to the Golden Knights both offensively and defensively.

Last season, despite being limited to 47 games, Theodore tallied five goals and 37 assists for 42 points, showcasing his ability to contribute consistently on the ice. Over his NHL career, split between the Golden Knights and the Anaheim Ducks, he has accumulated 313 points (72 goals, 241 assists) across 503 games, a testament to his elite playmaking skills from the back end.

Originally drafted 26th overall by the Ducks in the first round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Theodore’s development has been remarkable. After making his NHL debut in the 2015-16 season, he became a full-time NHL player with the Golden Knights in 2018-19. His impressive play with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL helped pave the way to his NHL success, and he has been a cornerstone of Vegas’ defense ever since.

With this extension, the Golden Knights ensure their blue line remains strong as they continue to push for more championships under head coach Bruce Cassidy.
