In a disappointing turn of events, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is officially out for the season following a challenging performance against the Georgia Bulldogs. This was only Ewers’ second game back after recovering from an earlier injury. His return was marked by inconsistency, leading to his benching during the game in favor of backup QB Arch Manning, as Texas struggled to find an offensive rhythm while trailing 20-0.
Ewers’ first half was particularly tough, completing just six of 12 passes for a mere 17 yards, along with one interception and a fumble. However, in the third quarter, Sarkisian made the decision to reinsert Ewers, who responded with two touchdown passes that reignited hopes for a comeback. Unfortunately, the Longhorns couldn’t sustain that momentum, finishing the game scoreless in the fourth quarter, while Georgia secured a 30-15 victory with an early touchdown run by Trevor Etienne.
Following the game, many questions arose regarding Ewers’ health, especially considering his recent oblique injury that sidelined him for two games after a September 14 matchup against the UTSA Roadrunners. Ewers had returned to the field on October 12 against the Oklahoma Sooners, where he recorded 199 yards with one touchdown and one interception on 20 completions out of 29 attempts. While he acknowledged feeling less than 100%, Ewers assured reporters that “it’s not a big issue.”
Coach Steve Sarkisian, however, seems unfazed by the quarterback’s health concerns. After the loss to Georgia, he reiterated that Ewers would remain the starting QB. It remains uncertain how Ewers’ recent injury will impact his performance in the upcoming games against Vanderbilt Commodores and Florida Gators, but he will have an opportunity to silence doubts about his health moving forward.
