BREAKING: Steelers’ Coach Mike Tomlin Drops Truth Bomb as He Gives 3-Word Answer on Justin Fields After Jets Heroics…

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin faced a major question heading into Week 7: Russell Wilson or Justin Fields? Despite suggesting both quarterbacks might get playing time, Tomlin ultimately decided to stick with Wilson during the Steelers’ 37-15 victory over the New York Jets.

After the game, when asked if he had considered utilizing Fields in short-yardage situations, Tomlin’s response was blunt: “I did not.” Even with two key quarterback sneak opportunities, Tomlin trusted Wilson to execute both, leading to successful 1-yard gains. Wilson’s performance — though rusty early on — solidified his role, as he finished the game completing 16 of 29 passes for 2 touchdowns, securing the win.

Justin Fields, however, remained on the sidelines, with no appearances in the game. While Fields had averaged 38.5 rushing yards per game in the first six weeks, Tomlin chose to stick with Wilson, especially in the quarterback sneak scenarios. Despite Wilson’s less-than-stellar rushing performance, Tomlin did not deviate from his plan, signaling Wilson as the primary starter moving forward.

The victory over the Jets temporarily quells any quarterback debate in Pittsburgh. With the New York Giants on deck in Week 8 and a bye week following that game, Tomlin’s quarterback decision could extend well into the season if Wilson continues to perform.

As Tomlin told FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer before the Jets game, the Steelers have two capable quarterbacks. However, Tomlin is giving Wilson the opportunity to prove he’s the long-term solution. If Wilson excels against the Giants, it may further reduce Fields’ chances of seeing the field anytime soon.
