The New York Jets have been actively shopping their well-experienced wide receiver, but recent trade talks with the Pittsburgh Steelers have hit a snag. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, negotiations have been put on hold as the two teams prepare to face each other tonight.
Williams’ time in New York appeared to be running out after a series of costly mistakes in recent games. In a critical moment last week, Williams ran a poor route that resulted in a game-ending interception. This followed another mishap the week prior, where he was outmuscled on the Jets’ final play against the Vikings, allowing yet another game-ending pick.
Though Williams remains a valuable veteran, the Jets are unlikely to receive much in return for him, especially after the team acquired Davante Adams to bolster their receiving corps. Williams also reportedly drew the ire of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which further signaled his impending departure from the Jets.
While the Steelers were initially interested, Williams has reportedly declined their contract offer, leaving his future uncertain. With trade talks now paused, it’s clear that Williams’ days as a Jet are numbered, but the timing of his exit remains unclear.
