SAD NEWS: Auburn Football Loss a Key Coaching Staff Due to…

In a significant development, former Auburn Athletic Director Allen Greene has been named the new Athletics Director at the University of Pittsburgh, the school officially announced on Friday. Greene, 47, who served as Auburn’s AD from 2018 to 2022, will now take over leadership of Pitt’s athletics program.

Since leaving Auburn, Greene has been working as the Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer at the University of Tennessee, a position he held since November last year. His departure marks a major loss for Auburn, as Greene was instrumental in shaping the program during his tenure.

“Pitt Athletics is the front porch of the University of Pittsburgh, serving as a crucial access point for so many across our campus, our region, our nation, and the world,” said Pittsburgh Chancellor Joan Gabel. “In Allen Greene, we have a proven national leader who exemplifies the Pitt way and has all the experience and intangibles to elevate our athletics program both in competition and in the classroom.”

During his time at Auburn, Greene made headlines when he fired head football coach Gus Malzahn at the end of the 2020 season, later hiring Bryan Harsin as Malzahn’s replacement. However, the decision proved to be unsuccessful, as Harsin was dismissed less than two seasons later. Greene ultimately resigned from Auburn in August 2022 with just five months left on his contract.

Greene’s move to Pittsburgh signals a new chapter for him, but Auburn now faces the challenge of filling the leadership void left behind.
