BREAKING NEWS: Blue Jays Officially Announce the Addition of 3 Elite Trade-Deadline to Succour John Schneider’s 2025 Roster…

Following a challenging first half of the 2024 season, the Toronto Blue Jays made major moves at the trade deadline, dealing away seven players—most of whom were on expiring contracts. In return, the Jays bolstered their farm system with key prospects and depth players. Among the notable additions were some who could play a significant role in the 2025 season.

Here are the three key acquisitions who could help strengthen the Blue Jays’ 2025 roster, all of whom share connections to the Houston Astros:

Joey Loperfido – OF

As the Blue Jays search for outfield power following Kevin Kiermaier’s departure, Joey Loperfido stands out as a strong candidate to fill the void. The outfielder had a promising 2024 season, splitting time across three levels and recording 27 doubles, 25 home runs, and a .880 OPS. Though he struggled at the plate after his midseason promotion to the big leagues, he finished with a .214 average and four home runs for the Jays.

Heading into 2025, Loperfido has a strong chance to secure the starting left field spot if he can improve his consistency at the plate and reduce his strikeout rate, which sat at 36.3% last season. His combination of speed, defense, and power makes him a valuable asset for the Jays’ roster.

Will Wagner – INF

Another exciting acquisition for the Jays is infielder Will Wagner, son of former MLB star Billy Wagner. Wagner impressed after being traded in the Yusei Kikuchi deal, showcasing his ability to make consistent contact. He posted a .305/.337/.451 slash line with eight extra-base hits during his stint with the Blue Jays.

Though the infield is crowded with talent, Wagner’s performance in spring training will likely determine whether he can earn a spot on the Opening Day roster. The Jays have plenty of infield options, but Wagner’s plate discipline and ability to get on base could give him the edge in the competition for playing time.

Jake Bloss – RHP

Pitching depth was a priority for the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, and they found a promising arm in Jake Bloss. Bloss had a rollercoaster 2024, starting the season in High-A and eventually making his MLB debut in June after the Astros’ rotation suffered multiple injuries. Though his big-league stint was brief and marred by a shoulder injury, Bloss showed potential, especially with strong outings in Triple-A Buffalo after the trade.

Heading into 2025, Bloss will compete for a spot in the Jays’ rotation. While control issues (4.94 BB/9 in Triple-A) remain a concern, Bloss could be a valuable depth option for the Blue Jays, especially if he can improve his command and regain his pre-trade form.

With these three players in the mix, the Blue Jays are looking to solidify their roster as they aim to bounce back in 2025. Each player brings a unique skill set that could help manager John Schneider’s squad contend in the highly competitive AL East.
