San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided worrying updates regarding running back, who suffered an injury during Thursday night’s 36-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. While the extent of the injury isn’t considered severe, it still raises concerns for the 49ers’ offensive depth.
Mason had a strong start to the game, rushing for 65 yards on 8 carries in the first half. However, he exited the game with a shoulder injury before halftime. Although he briefly returned in the second half with an 8-yard run, Mason was forced to leave the game again shortly after.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mason sprained his AC joint, and while it is not a serious injury, further tests are being conducted to assess the full extent of the damage.
Mason has been a key player for the 49ers this season, stepping up in Christian McCaffrey’s absence due to Achilles injuries. The third-year running back has amassed 609 rushing yards, leading the NFL through six games, along with three rushing touchdowns and 75 receiving yards.
Fortunately, with the 49ers having played on Thursday, Mason has extra recovery time before their Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Additionally, there has been speculation that McCaffrey could return sooner than anticipated, providing some relief for San Francisco’s offense.
